The arrest of Steve McQueen:
Known as the "King of Cool",
Steve McQueen's anti-hero roles made him a big star at the height of the Viet Nam war era.
He received an Academy Award nomination for his role in "The Sand Pebbles" and his other hit films included: "Bullitt", "The Thomas Crown Affair", The Getaway", The Towering Inferno", "The Magnificent Seven", "The Great Escape" and "Papillon".
He accomplished a lot, despite a difficult childhood that included severe beatings from his step-father. Steve was also forced to attend an all-boy's high school for troubled adolescents.
While he was honorably discharged from the U.S Marines, his rebelliousness led to demotions and 41 days in the brig for failing to return after an expired weekend pass and resisting arrest.
He liked living on the edge…racing cars and riding motorbikes.
He was also known for heavy drug use, including marijuana and cocaine. In 1972, he was busted for drunk driving in Anchorage Alaska, posed for his mug shot, put up bail and left town. He was later convicted in absentia for reckless driving. End of case.
McQueen died of mesothelioma in 1978, a disease associated with exposure to asbestos.
